Almost 20% of the bird species that live on our planet can be found in Peru. More than 1800 different species have already been recorded, and this number increases every year.
The Los Chilchos and La Meseta area is also home of a large number of bird species, many of them endemic for this part of the Andes. . Some well-known species are the "Marvelous Spatuletail" (Loddigesia mirabilis) and the "Yellow-browed Toucanet" (Aulacorhynchus huallagae).
Very recently we have also observed the "Johnson's Tody-tyrant" (Poecilotriccus luluae) and the "Pale-billed Antpitta" (Grallaria carrikeri) near our lodges.
The project-area is therefore of utmost importance for the conservation of a large number of bird species, many of them very interesting for ornithologists.
A detailed list with the birds that have been observed at different locations within the project-area can be found here.
A Peruvian student has conducted another survey in June 2009, and did some exciting discoveries. His report can be found here.
